"We Love to Go for Walks"

Gospel for Asia

September 2008

We love to go for walksBHUTAN (ANS) -- Like most people in Bhutan, Sanika Dorji and Indali Ngedup walk to get where they need to go. They walk to the market and they walk to church. It’s nothing out of the ordinary—except that both of these women used to be paralyzed.

The women's paralysis was caused by the same disease. For 18 months, neither Sanika nor Indali could walk anywhere. They sought help from both medical doctors and many well-known witch doctors in their area. But neither medical treatments nor the spells changed anything.

Gospel for Asia missionaries Dileshwar Ekka and Vinmugil Ekka had been serving in the area. But due to strong opposition from followers of the village’s traditional religion, no one was interested in their message.

Then they met Indali.

Dileshwar and Vinmugil were traveling house-to-house visiting with the villagers when they stopped at Indali’s home. When Indali’s husband, Paljor, answered the door, Dileshwar shared with him about the love of Jesus. In desperate need of help, Paljor told Dileshwar about Indali’s paralysis.

“Jesus has the power to heal the sick,” Dileshwar told Paljor. So Paljor asked Dileshwar and Vinmugil to come in and pray for his bedridden wife.

As the missionaries fervently interceded for Indali, she immediately began to get better. Within six days she was completely healed! When Indali and Paljor saw the Lord’s power, they gave their lives to Him.

As the news of Indali’s healing spread around the village, Sanika heard about the miracle. She had faith that the Lord could heal her, too, so she begged her husband to take her to see the missionaries.

When she arrived, Dileshwar and Vinmugil prayed for her illness. And as the prayer ended, Sanika’s body was whole again. She and her husband also saw the true power of the Lord and began faithfully following Him that very day.

Now Sanika and Indali can walk anywhere they want, but the place they really love to go is prayer meeting.

“We love to go for walks!” the women exclaim. They are so thankful for God’s grace and mercy.

Dileshwar and Vinmugil request prayer that Indali, Sanika and their families will continue to grow in their new faith in Christ. They also ask for prayer that their incredible testimonies will bring many more into a relationship with Him.

Gospel for Asia is a mission organization involved in evangelism and church planting in Asia's unreached regions. Currently Gospel for Asia supports more than 16,000 church planters in 10 countries

My Dear Friend,

In our busy lives, it is easy to be so preoccupied with our own dreams and pursuits that we lose our eternal perspective. Both the joys of heaven and the crying needs of a lost world can seem unreal and far away.

But the harsh reality is that 2.7 billion people of our generation are still unreached with the Gospel. What answers are we prepared to give to the living God when He asks about the blood of these multitudes on our hands?

Today, we have the great privilege of helping them come to know Jesus. If we will commit to live for what is eternal, this generation can be reached with the Gospel.

I pray that Gospel for Asia will become like a bridge, giving you the opportunity to walk away from your own preoccupations to the harvest fields of Asia—and see the perishing multitudes through the eyes of Jesus.

May you allow God to use your life to change the destiny of millions through your prayers and partnership with our native brothers and sisters.

A hundred years from now, you will be glad you did!

Yours for the lost multitudes of Asia,

Dr. K.P. Yohannan
