March
17, 2006 Issue : Multiculturalism - Pray for Our FRONTLINE
G'day from the Sentinel Team
This
Update focusses on Multiculturalism.
We have gleaned prayer points from some excellent resources
on the web that aid us in our understanding of how to
pray.
We are undoubtedly the Ambassadors and spokesmen that
God has ordained for this generation and we cannot shy
away from the
relentless volley of extremist manipulation that is
targetting Australia at every level.
It
is VITAL that we PRAY for our FRONTLINES,
guarding, strengthening and believing for their protection
from the
FEAR
mongering and INTIMIDATION
tactics that seek to paralyse them.
Under His Banner
Bev Holmes-Brown
You
are my lamp O Lord; The lord shall enlighten my
darkness.
For by you I can run against a troop;
By My God I can leap over a wall.
... For Who is God except the Lord?
And who is a rock, except our God?
God is my strength and power,
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
And Sets me on my high places.
He teaches my hands to make war, so that my arms
can bend a bow of bronze

FOR WISDOM FOR OUR DECISION MAKERS / LEADERS
"A
big problem for Australian multiculturalism, according
to historian Mark Lopez, is that it failed
to anticipate that immigrants might one day be
opposed to the central tenets of Western society.
Multiculturalism
was not conceived in terms of minorities that
are anti-Western. "The original policy was
forged to accommodate southern Europeans who cooked
lasagne, eastern Europeans who fled from communism
and Jews," Lopez says. "That was the diversity
and they were all pro-West."
Were
successive waves of newcomers going to play the
game? "It wasn't even thought about," he says
...
Was it a failure on the part of the architects
of multiculturalism to foresee minorities might
be hostile to the West? "Of course it was," Lopez
concludes.
One
of those architects, George Zubrzycki, concedes
he never imagined that his preference for a
culturally diverse policy could welcome hardline
isolationist groups antagonistic to Western values.
“But
[only] with [God] are [perfect] wisdom and might;
He [alone] has [true] counsel and understanding.
Behold, He tears down, and it cannot be built again;
He shuts a man in, and none can open. He withholds
the waters, and the land dries up; again, He sends
forth [rains], and they overwhelm the land or transform
it. With Him are might and wisdom; the deceived
and the deceiver are His [and in His power]. He
leads [great and scheming] counselors away stripped
and barefoot and makes the judges fools [in human
estimation, by overthrowing their plans]. Job 12:13-17

FOR A STRENGTHENED NATIONAL PRIDE, PURPOSE
AND DESTINY
"America
lost its grasp of its own historic character,
and embraced "diversity" as a national goal. In
the name of equality and nondiscrimination, we
invited mass immigration from every part of the
globe, and made no demands on the newcomers to
become Americans. In fact, we gave up our American
core, adopted multiculturalism and declared all
cultures equal. We invited the new groups to celebrate
themselves, while we cravenly permitted libelous
denigration of our own past.
Like
fools, we prated that diversity is our strength,
when common sense and all of history tell us that
strength comes from unity.
Absolute
nondiscrimination meant we no longer enforced
standards, made judgments, distinguished between
good and evil, friend and foe. We grew lazy, stupid
and careless – about our borders, about national
security, even about previous terrorist attacks
against us. We worried over our "hate crimes"
and our "racial profiling," while men resided
in our midst who seethed with murderous fury even
against our children, and plotted our destruction.
Now
we have a fifth column, fear further assaults,
and labor under a draconian security regime that
is changing the nature of our lives." .
“Praise
be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom
and power are His. He changes times and season;
he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom
to the wise and knowledge to the discerning." Daniel

FOR THE PLANS OF VIOLENT EXTREMISTS TO FAIL
The
lesson of the Muhammad cartoon controversy is:
Multiculturalism between nations is inevitable,
but multiculturalism within nations is disastrous.
Protests, many of them violent, have erupted across
the world ... It's time for all of us to recognize
that different cultures have different values.
For the West, broadly speaking, the highest value
is freedom, including freedom of religious expression.
But for the Muslim world, the highest value seems
to be Islamic piety ... Not everyone thirsts for
liberty. Plenty of people around the world, maybe
most, thirst instead to restrict liberty.
....
In London, Muslims responding to the Danish cartoons
chanted pro-jihad slogans and carried signs reading
"7/7 is on its way" - a reference to the terror
bombings last July 7 that killed 52 innocent Britons.
That's not free speech; that's incitement to
violence. A nation allowing such hostile populations
to flourish in its midst is not defending liberty.
It is enabling its own national suicide.
“O
Lord, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble;
Thou wilt strengthen their heart, Thou wilt incline
Thine ear. To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed,
that man who is of the earth may cause terror no
more. Psalm 10:17-18
APRAY
AGAINST DECEPTION
Like
a pressure cooker or bottle of soda water waiting
to explode, the simmering racial war will reach
its inevitable climax later, if not sooner. Strong
police tactics have contained the situation for
now; however, ... we
need a long-term solution. Multiculturalism
is simply not working. The multicultural melting
pot has turned into a pressure cooker and it’s
now a case of assimilate or implode Australia.
...
During my 31 years in Sri Lanka and two years
in Saudi Arabia, multiculturalism was a word I
never heard uttered - unusual considering both
of these countries have people from many nations
living there, especially Saudi Arabia.
...
Since moving to Australia in 1997 I have travelled
to more than 20 countries across the Middle East,
Asia, Africa, Eastern and Western Europe and the
US. What amazes me is that wherever there is a
Western society, I hear the word "multiculturalism",
but I never hear this word in other parts of the
world.
...
let's face reality. The truth is that countries
founded on the Judeo-Christian heritage (Western
democracies) are the best to live in. .
“"Direct
my footsteps according to Your word; let no sin
rule over me. Redeem me from the oppression of men,
that I may obey Your precepts. Make Your face shine
upon Your servant and teach me Your decrees." (Psalm
119:133-135).

FOR STRENGTH THAT SUSTAINS IN THE BATTLE
Radical
Islam is an opportunistic infection, like AIDS:
It's not the HIV that kills you, it's the pneumonia
you get when your body's too weak to fight it
off.
When
the jihadists engage with the U.S. military, they
lose--as they did in Afghanistan and Iraq. If
this were like World War I with those fellows
in one trench and us in ours facing them over
some boggy piece of terrain, it would be over
very quickly. Which the smarter Islamists have
figured out. They know they can never win on the
battlefield, but they figure there's an excellent
chance they can drag things out until Western
civilization collapses in on itself and Islam
inherits by default.
That's
what the war's about: our lack of civilizational
confidence. As a famous Arnold Toynbee quote puts
it: "Civilizations die from suicide, not murder"--as
can be seen throughout much of "the Western world"
right now. The progressive agenda--lavish social
welfare, abortion, secularism, multiculturalism--is
collectively the real suicide bomb.
Take
multiculturalism. The great thing about multiculturalism
is that it doesn't involve knowing anything about
other cultures--the capital of Bhutan, the principal
exports of Malawi, who cares? All it requires
is feeling good about other cultures. It's fundamentally
a fraud, and I would argue was subliminally accepted
on that basis. Most adherents to the idea that
all cultures are equal don't want to live in anything
but an advanced Western society..
“Cast
your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved
- Psalm 55:22

FOR OUR EDUCATORS / CHILDREN / EDUCATION DEPARTMENTS
"A
RADICAL Muslim thinker who inspired al-Qa'ida
is being served up as subject matter for high
school students in NSW.
Sayyid
Qutb, an Egyptian militant hanged in 1966 but
still a powerful influence on violent Islamists,
and the Pakistani fundamentalist Sayyid Maududi
are the only two modern Muslim thinkers on a revised
syllabus for studies of religion.
Experts
this week condemned the prominence of political
Islam in the new syllabus, and especially the
inclusion of Qutb.
....
Multiculturalism seeks to inject an anti-Western
dogma into today's curriculum....multiculturalism
claims to offer a real value: a cosmopolitan,
rather than provincial, understanding of the world
beyond the student's immediate surroundings. But
it is a peculiar kind of "broadening." Multiculturalists
would rather have students admire the primitive
patterns of Navajo blankets, say, than learn why
Islam's medieval golden age of scientific progress
was replaced by fervent piety and centuries of
stagnation.
One
text acclaims the inhabitants of West Africa in
pre-Columbian times for having prosperous economies
and for establishing a university in Timbuktu;
but it ignores their brutal trade in slaves and
the proliferation of far more consequential institutions
of learning in Paris, Oxford and elsewhere in
Europe. Some books routinely lionize the architecture
of the Aztecs, but purposely overlook or underplay
the fact that they practiced human sacrifices.
A few textbooks seek to portray Islam as peaceful
in part by distorting the concept of "jihad" ("sacred
war") to mean an internal struggle to surmount
temptation and evil. Islam's wars of religious
conquest are played down.
...Multiculturalism
is no boon to education, but an agent of anti-Western
ideology.
“If
thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony
that I shall teach them; their children also shall
sit upon thy throne for ever. Psalm 132:12
APRAY
FOR THE MEDIA
...
as Muslims enraged by cartoons of the Prophet
Mohammed torched Danish diplomatic missions in
Lebanon and Syria, Melbourne's artists rallied
to defend free speech.
Their timing was perfect. After
all, almost every paper in the country had just
decided to censor themselves, refusing to publish
12 innocuous cartoons that had Muslim extremists
from Jakarta to London threatening death and mayhem
...
Daring Dave knew well the risk he was running
by turning up on Sunday to defend free speech,
but welcomed martyrdom: "I'd love to get locked
up for doing this."
Locked up? Oh dear, I'm at the wrong protest,
aren't I?
Dave and his artist friends weren't defending
that right to free speech. No, they weren't defending
that right against the very real threat of violence
by Muslims. They were there to defend free speech
instead from the completely imaginary threat of
prosecution by the Howard Government, under sedition
laws we've actually had for decades.
Here again was our cultural elite at play, pretending
our greatest danger comes not from radical Islam,
but those protecting us from it.
...This
refusal to publish does not represent the success
of multiculturalism but its failure. Habits of
free speech good enough for generations of Christians,
Sikhs, Buddhists and Jews are too much for Muslims
whose anger scares even their leaders.
Not
publishing is a gesture not of respect, but of
fear.
I
reluctantly support that decision, agreeing with
the Herald Sun that the harm that may come to
others is not worth the benefit. Yet I worry that
we have all played into the hands of extremist
Muslims and betrayed the moderates, such as the
(now sacked) editor in Jordan, who published some
of the cartoons, pleading with his readers to
"be reasonable".
““At
one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived
and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures.
We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating
one another.4But when the kindness and love of God
our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of
righteous things we had done, but because of his
mercy.” Titus 3: 3-4

FOR THE LORD TO RAISE UP INTERCESSORS
"the
jihadists are for the most part doing no more
than giving us a prod in the rear as we sleepwalk
to the cliff.
When
I say "sleepwalk," it's not because we're a blasé
culture. On the contrary, one of the clearest
signs of our decline is the way we expend so much
energy worrying about the wrong things. If
you've read Jared Diamond's bestselling book "Collapse:
How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed," you'll
know it goes into a lot of detail about Easter
Island going belly up because they chopped down
all their trees.
Apparently
that's why they're not a G-8 member or on the
U.N. Security Council. Same with the Greenlanders
and the Mayans and Diamond's other curious choices
of "societies." Indeed, as the author sees it,
pretty much every society collapses because it
chops down its trees. .
“Forever,
O Lord, Thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness
continues throughout all generations; Thou didst
establish the earth, and it stands. Psalm 119:89-90
APRAY
FOR A UNITED VOICE AGAINST RACISM
IT
is so self-congratulatingly easy for the Human
Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission to accuse
us of racism towards asylum seekers. But now HREOC
admits that a good number of those asylum seekers
- particularly Muslims - are themselves racist,
persecuting others who don't share their faith.
It's a pity it doesn't then ask the obvious question
in its new report, Last Resort?: Is it
wise for a largely Christian land to let in people
who hate Christians and other non-Muslims?
Let's be clear: Many Muslims in fact get along
fine with Christians, Jews and others. Not all
asylum seekers are racist.
But now let me quote from HREOC's report on its
inquiry into children in our detention centres.
A Last Resort? cites many witnesses who confirm
that Muslims in most detention centres have persecuted
Christians and Sabian Mandaeans, people of a Middle
Eastern faith that borrows from Christianity.
In three centres, the persecution was so bad that
non-Muslims had to be given protection. For instance,
A Last Resort? notes: "A Christian mother reported
to the South Australian child protection agency
that she was persecuted by Muslims in the detention
centre because of her religious beliefs.
"They view her as unclean and she was assaulted
by a Muslim detainee when she tried to pass food
to him while she was working in the detention
centre kitchen."
...
In Woomera, one mother said she tried to fit in
with Muslim families, but "she and her children
felt so harassed that (the centre's staff) eventually
moved them to a different compound for their own
safety".
..
In Baxter, the Immigration Department had to move
12 families from "minority religions" to a separate
compound.
"Some families stated that they felt safe for
the first time,"
HREOC said. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Muslim Association,
whose boss is the spokesman for the Grand Mufti
of Australia, objected to Christian priests converting
Muslims in detention centres. How dare Christians
interfere with "the preservation of (Muslims')
original religion and culture"?
After telling us this and much more, A Last Resort?
suggests some solutions - perhaps "educational
programs for children on the importance of tolerance"
or "training for detainees and staff setting out
how to treat people of different religions and
the consequences of the failure to do so under
Australian law".
Good Lord, is that all the protection we can hope
for as we let in people with such intolerance
of non-believers? Now that we're importing this
hatred, can HREOC urgently investigate the rights
of Australians to protect our open culture and
easy-going ways?
“Moreover
thou shalt provide out of all the people able men,
such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness;
and place [such] over them, [to be] rulers of thousands,
[and] rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and
rulers of tens: Exodus 18:21

: The Evolution of Australia's Multicultural
Policy
Excerpted
from the Department of Immigration & Multicultural
Affairs Website:
The Evolution of Australia's Multicultural Policy
The freedom of all Australians to express
and share their cultural values is dependent on their
abiding by mutual civic obligations.
All Australians are expected to have an overriding loyalty
to Australia and its people, and to respect the basic
structures and principles underwriting our democratic
society. These are: the Constitution, parliamentary
democracy, freedom of speech and religion, English as
the national language, the rule of law, acceptance and
equality.
Brief History of Australia's Multicultural Policies
Background
Australia’s approach to immigration from federation
until the latter part of the twentieth century, in effect,
excluded non-European immigration. The ‘White Australia
policy’ as it was commonly described, could not, however,
withstand the attitudinal changes after World War II,
and the growing acknowledgment of Australia’s responsibilities
as a member of the international community.
In 1966 the Liberal-Country Party Government began dismantling
the White Australia policy by permitting the immigration
of 'distinguished' non-Europeans. The prevailing attitude
to migrant settlement up until this time was based on
the expectation
of ‘assimilation’ – that is, that
migrants should shed their cultures and languages and
rapidly become indistinguishable from the host population.
From the mid-1960s until1973, when the final vestiges
of the White Australia policy were removed, policies
started to examine assumptions about assimilation. They
recognised that large numbers of migrants, especially
those whose first language was not English, experienced
hardships as they settled in Australia, and required
more direct assistance.
They
also recognised the importance of ethnic organisations
in helping with migrant settlement.
Expenditure on migrant assistance and welfare rose sharply
in the early 1970s in response to these needs...
Multiculturalism
By
1973 the term 'multiculturalism' had been introduced
and migrant groups were forming state and national associations
to maintain their cultures, and promote the survival
of their languages and heritages within mainstream institutions...
Background
: Australia: More than Sixty Years
of Post War Migration
Excerpted
from the Department of Immigration & Multicultural
Affairs Website:
More than Sixty Years of Post War Migration
... Since 1945, almost six million people have come
to Australia as new settlers..
...
large – scale program of migration to Australia began
at the end of World War II when millions of people in
Europe were displaced from their homelands.
At
the same time, in Australia, there was a desperate shortage
of labour and a growing belief that substantial population
growth was essential for the country’s future.
These
and other factors led to the creation of a federal immigration
portfolio in 1945.
By
1947, a post-war immigration boom was under way, with
a large and growing number of arrivals including those
on government-assisted passage.
...
Today, nearly one in four of Australia's more than 20
million population were born overseas. New Zealand and
the United Kingdom are the largest source countries
for migrants, but other regions – notably Asia – have
become more significant.
Early
Migration Waves
...
Aboriginal people are regarded as the Indigenous people
of Australia.
...Transported
criminals were the basis of the first migration from
Europe. Starting in 1788, some 160 000 convicts were
shipped to the Australian colonies. From the early 1790s,
free immigrants also began coming to Australia
...
During the Golden Rush era of 1851 to 1860, early migration
peaked at arrivals of around 50 000 people a year. During
this period, Chinese immigrants were the largest non-British
group.
Over
the years, the migration program reflected economic
or social conditions in Australia and elsewhere. For
example:
during
the 1840s a large number of Irish immigrants came
to Australia to escape famine in their homeland
from
the 1860s to the late nineteenth century, labourers
from Melanesia were recruited to work on Queensland
plantations
from
the 1860s to the 1920s, concerns about population
imbalance resulted in deliberate efforts to attract
women to Australia
during
the second half of the nineteenth century, Afghani,
Pakistani and Turkish camel handlers played an important
part in opening up the continent’s interior, facilitating
the construction of telegraph and railway lines, and
Japanese
fishers were instrumental in the pearling industry
in the late nineteenth century.
The
two world wars also influenced Australia’s migration
program. The resettling of ex-servicemen, refugees and
young people were significant chapters in Australian
immigration history
Today’s
migration
Currently
more than 100 000 migrants each year are granted visas
under the Skill and Family Streams of Australia’s Migration
Program.
More
than 150 000 people now receive temporary entry visas
to Australia each year, to undertake specific work or
business, or to entertain, play sport or have a working
holiday.
In
addition to these numbers, around 13 000 humanitarian
entrants will also travel to Australia each year to
rebuild their lives, having fled persecution or suffering.
Social
Impact of Migration
Social
The make-up of Australia’s population has changed dramatically
during the past 200 years. It has gone from an almost
total Aboriginal population to predominantly Anglo-Celtic
(by 1900) and on to its present mix of about 74 per
cent Anglo-Celtic, 19 per cent other European and 4.5
per cent Asian.
In
Australia today, nearly one in four people were born
overseas, 43 per cent of all Australian’s were born
overseas or have at least one parent who was born overseas
and in recent years, people from around 185 different
countries have made their home in Australia.
Background
: Australia ... Assimilation ...
Integration ... Multiculturalism
Excerpted
from the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade Website:
Australia: A culturally diverse
society
... As Australia entered the 20th century, its population
consisted of a relatively small number of Indigenous
peoples and an overwhelming majority of Europeans, most
of whose origins lay in the British Isles. In 2004,
Australia's population has grown to more than 20 million,
it is home to people from more than 200 countries and
it has an enviable international reputation for its
diversity and tolerance.
...
The first Europeans to settle in Australia were convicts
transported from Britain. Some 160 000 men and women
were brought to Australia from 1788 until transportation
ceased in 1868.
The convicts were joined by free immigrants from the
early 1790s. The gold rush era of the 1850s brought
people from many parts of the world. The largest non-European
group was the Chinese.
The White Australia policy-embodied in the Immigration
Restriction Act 1901-was a result of conflict with non-European
migrants. Its particular focus was on ending the employment
of Pacific islanders brought in as cheap labour to work
on sugar plantations in the north. The policy was abolished
gradually after World War II. But the emphasis on European
immigration remained until 1966, when the government
allowed the migration of 'distinguished' non-Europeans.
... From 1901 to the early 1970s, policies towards newcomers
had been based on the concepts
of assimilation and, later, integration.
While the preference for British migrants remained,
others were expected to shed their existing cultural
identities, including their native languages, to promote
their rapid absorption into the host population.
The integration policy,
in effect from the mid-60s until 1972, recognised that
large numbers of people whose first language was not
English were suffering hardships in settling in Australia.
Most were Europeans of non-British origin who had come
to Australia after World War II.
By 1973, the word 'multiculturalism'
had been introduced and minority groups were forming
local and national associations to promote their language
and heritage within the mainstream. Now it has progressed
to the point where it is central to Australian society.
The
postwar years The two world wars had a profound effect
on Australia's migration program. The resettling of
refugees and young people in the postwar periods, especially
after World War II, were significant chapters in Australian
immigration history.
Since the late 1940s over six million migrants from
200 countries have made Australia their home.
...
Socially, migration has contributed to the emergence
of Australia as one of the most cosmopolitan and dynamic
societies in the world. It has meant the introduction
of more than 100 languages into Australian life, while
English remains the common language. It has also resulted
in the growth of community language schools, ethnic
media, businesses, diverse religious and cultural activities
and variety in foods, restaurants, fashion, art and
architecture.
