Iran is desperately trying to extract its agents out of Gaza City following the Israel ceasefire announcement. A source inside the Hizbullah terrorist group claims Iran dispatched Iranian rocket experts to Gaza to assist Hamas operations.
The Iranian involvement is already well publicized but the concern is that the Iranian agents may be captured by Israel and expose details of Iranian activities.
The Israel ceasefire appears to be an attempt to diffuse activities before President-elect Barrack Obama if inaugurated. His White House desk is already waiting with international and domestic issues of major importance.
However, It is unlikely the Israel-Hamas situation will disappear.
During three weeks of fighting Israel achieved major goals. They removed the Hamas Interior Minister Said Siam, Hamas commanders Abu Zakaira al-Jamal and Nizar Rayan.
The Stratfor news agency also claims Israel killed ‘a number of alleged Iranian agents.’
Israel also laid waste to much of the Hamas infrastructure. Much of the Hamas rocket arsenal was destroyed.
Israel Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Washington Friday and emphasized the importance of controlling smuggling activities into Gaza through the tunnel network. She demanded the international community provide an effective way of securing the Rafah Crossing.
Apparently President-elect Obama and the next US Secretary of State Hillary Clintion approved a Memorandum of Understanding Livni signed with Condoleezza Rice. Israel has suggested joint U.S. and Israeli special operations could be deployed to the Red Sea to aid the anti-smuggling effort.
Rockets have continued into Israel despite the ceasefire. A spokesman for the terror group Islamic Jihad said they would not be accepting any peace agreement.
Their goal remains the eradication of the Israel state an ambition shared with President Ahmadinejad in Tehran.
While the ceasefire and the Memorandum of Understanding make all the right statements, it may well be katyushas and qassams may speak louder than words.
Israel is due for national elections 10th February. It is unlikely the political candidates will be re-elected if they allow Operation Cast Lead to melt-down without a clear cut effective result.
