The hate-laced speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the United Nations Assembly received world-wide exposure. One Israeli critique said ‘the little man’ had become ‘the darling’ of the U.S media, in demand for television and radio talk back shows.
The other passionate headline here has been the swift criticism of Jewish Democrats who cancelled an appearance by Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin. The organizers ‘disinvited’ Palin after Hilary Clinton back out of the meeting.
Strange how everyone jumped in the queue to hear from Ahmadinejad but chose to silence Palin!!
Leading Jerusalem commentators including Caroline Glick (Jerusalem Post) gained access to the speech which was never delivered.
Middle East analyst and commentator Emanuel A. Winston said “Mrs Palin in her speech makes it plain that for all her alleged naivete in foreign affairs, she fully comprehends the danger Iran’s president poses to the rest of us, particularly, but not exclusively, to Israel.”
Her speech in part said: “Senator McCain has made a solemn commitment that I strongly endorse: Never again will we risk another Holocaust. And this is not a wish, a request, or a plea to Israel’s enemies. This is a promise that the United States and Israel will honor, against any enemy who cares to test us.”
Winston remarked that 5 former Secretaries of State had an anti-Israel mind-set. He listed Henry Kissinger, Warren Christopher, Madelyn Albright, James Baker III and Colin Powell. “Their interests were primarily the oil and not the survival of Israel,” he wrote.
Palin would have said: “If Iran acquires nuclear weapons – they could share them tomorrow with the terrorists they finance and train today. Iranian nuclear weapons would set off a dangerous regional nuclear arms race that would make all of us less safe.
“But Iran is not only a regional threat; it threatens the entire world. It is the No. 1 state sponsor of terrorism. It sponsors the world’s most vicious terrorist groups, Hamas and Hezbollah. Together, Iran and its terrorists are responsible for the deaths of Americans in Lebanon in the 1980’s, in Saudi Arabia in the 1990s, and in Iraq today. They have murdered Iraqis, Lebanese, Palestinians, and other Muslims who have resisted Iran’s desire to dominate the region. They have persecuted countless people simply because they are Jewish.”
Jews who preferred their Democrat Party to the safety of Israel silenced this speech.
Former Israel ambassador to the United Nations Dore Gold carried a petition to Washington. It called for Ahmadinejad to be brought before the international court on charges of genocidal incitement.
One of the first to sign the petition was Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
The French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner called a press conference and said: ‘I strongly regret, lament and condemn the things Ahmadinejad said in his speech, especially the anti-Semitic remarks. We cannot just condemn it anymore. Ahmadinejad’s words make clear that we must take care of the Iranian nuclear issue. We must react because the situation is extremely serious and dangerous.”
The world economy is to say the least shaky. Unless immediate action is taken Americans have been warned it could cost them their homes, farms, retirement savings and cause major devastation.
If Iran is allowed to have a nuclear weapon, which experts now say is possible in six months, the economy may be the least of our problems.
