The most significant event of 2008 has just taken place in the Middle East and the world yawns!
Hizbullah has vaulted from hunted terrorist group to become part of the Lebanese Government. Not only did they receive a third of the parliamentary seats in Lebanon, they also were awarded veto rights on government decisions.
Their candidate the head of the Lebanese army has been appointed President. So now the much maligned Hizbullah ‘state within a state’ rules the roost.
The former Christian government which stood boldly against bullies from Syria and Iran have been sold out by a pathetically disinterested west. The Iranian sponsored Hizbullah ended up with more money, more weapons and more clout.
The USA gave the Lebanese government $250,000,000 to equip and train the army. I guess no one told them, most of the army are Hizbullah sympathizers.
In their new exalted position Hizbullah is now able to import more bombs, guns and missiles than ever. They can acquire all they need to ‘defend’ the Lebanon they now govern.
That these same tools may be turned on Israel when Iran pulls the string seems to have escaped the radar of ‘the powers that be.’
Make no mistake Lebanon has now become part of the Iran bloc.
I interviewed Prof Barry Rubin of the Global Research in International Affairs (GLORIA) Centre. He said, “One day, this tragedy might be seen as equivalent to the 1938 sacrifice of Czechoslovakia at Munich to appease Germany.”
Think about that for a moment. While American presidential hopefuls debate whether to talk to Tehran or not, Ahmadinejad has taken Lebanon and hardly
a shot was fired. Except the one that killed the former Lebanese prime minister.
Remember that? All the world leaders pounded their chests and declared how those murderers would be tracked down and brought to justice. I guess their access to such an investigation ends now but whose the next target on the hit-list, only time will tell.
When Iran acquires nuclear weapons the catastrophe for the region may be far greater than the horrors of World War II.
But then we have any number of U.S. peaceniks suggesting talks with Iran might be the way forward. The way they have bumbled through Middle East peace negotiations so far would suggest they would do the world a favor by watching movies or just keeping out of the way.
Hizbullah has swallowed a country and made it a potential launch pad for their often-proclaimed power struggle. It’s part of the ‘wipe Israel off the map’ plan.
What is most stunning is the silence of those so-called dedicated friends of Israel who must be busy with something like a presidential election.
Who will stand up to fight for democracy? OK so it’s over to Jesus once again. We can be sure He will get it done. It would save a great deal of torment and tragedy if all the chest-thumpers would just listen to Him.
