Activity in Syria once again spotlights the uncertainty of international relationships in the Middle East. WorldNetDaily (WND) reports that a new Syrian "resistance" group has been formed calling itself "The Front for the Liberation of the Golan." The agenda of the FLG is the return of the Golan Heights to Syrian control. The FLG will be trained by Hezbollah leaders.
The idea was motivated by the success of Hezbollah in their clash with Israel in the Second Lebanon War. In a televised address this week, Syrian President Bashar Assad acknowledge his respect for Hezbollah. "The region has changed because of the achievements of the resistance (Hezbollah)," he said to a meeting of a journalists group.
Experts say, the Syrian missiles, including the SS-21, can reach any part of the Jewish state.
"The Syrians are limiting their preparations to ballistic missiles, air defense and commando operations. Their first move would be an attack on our cities, rather than a tank invasion of the Golan," a security source told WND.
Speculation reached a peak this week when a top official from President Assad's Baath Party warned Israel must vacate the Golan Heights by August or September (2007)
Bridges for Peace staff this week observed the massive build up by Israel in the Golan Heights. They saw the readiness of tanks line along the border. The Syrian army we are told is already on high alert.
In frequent press conferences Israeli Army Generals have highlighted the importance of the Golan to the nation strategically. It is a high mountainous territory and provides a vantage point which overlooks Israeli population centres.
Our sources say tunnels used by Israel in 1967 have been refurbished and made ready for immediate military use.
A Baath Party official spoke to WND and outlined what would be an intensive and difficult time. He said Syria "learned from the Hezbollah experience last summer and we can have missiles hitting Tel Aviv that will overwhelm Israel's anti-missile batteries."
This week the US Ministry of Defense increased the budget for Israel. On top of the $2.4 billion already provided, America is looking to add more funds. Israel stands to receive another $150,000,000.
The extra money will provide $25 million more for Arrow missile co-production and integration, $135 million to buy a Theater High Altitude Area Defense (or THAAD), fire unit and $45 million for a US-Israeli short-range missile defense system dubbed "David's Sling."
There are many here in Jerusalem looking at prophecies regarding Damascus.
Jeremiah 49:23-26
"Concerning Damascus. "Hamath and Arpad are put to shame, For they have heard bad news; They are disheartened. There is anxiety by the sea, It cannot be calmed.
"Damascus has become helpless; She has turned away to flee, And panic has gripped her; Distress and pangs have taken hold of her. Like a woman in childbirth.
"How the city of praise has not been deserted, The town of My joy! "Therefore, her young men will fall in her streets, And all the men of war will be silenced in that day," declares the LORD of hosts."
Is the present build up leading to another biblical fulfillment in our day?
The world ignores the Living God at its peril!
