BUILDING PRAYER HABITS

How to Build a Prayer Focus for the Police :

UNITED KINGDOM : February 2010: The Bedford Heights Christian Police Association suggest the following:

  • YOUR COMMUNITY OFFICER : Contact your local police station and find out the name of the community police officer or community support officer for your area. Pray for that person by name.

  • FOR INJURED OFFICERS: Regularly obtain a copy of your local newspaper and look for reports where officers have been injured on duty and pray for them..

  • FOR LOCAL CRIME : Using your local newspaper, list reports of local crime and pray that the police will be successful in apprehending the perpetrators.

  • FOLLOW THE NEWS: Listen to local radio and television news and take note of any items involving
the police that need praying about.

  • READ POLICE APPEALS : Log on to your local police website and navigate to the news/appeals page where you can find local items to fuel your prayers.

  • FOR PROTECTION : Pray for God’s protection on your local area that you will have peace and an
    absence of crime.

  • FOR SENIOR OFFICER & SUPPORT STAFF : Find out the name of the senior police officer in charge of your area and pray for him / her and all the staff (both police and support staff) who work under their command.

  • WHEN YOU SEE A POLICE CAR : Whenever you see a police vehicle, whether or not they are on an emergency call, pray for the crew.

  • . FOR EMERGENCY CREWS : If you hear a police vehicle responding to an emergency call, pray for the safety of the officers and for the situation to which they might be responding.

  • FOR THE WITNESS OF CHRISTIAN POLICE : If you know of a Christian police officer in your area, pray that they will have a strong and effective witness amongst their colleagues.

Scriptures :

"Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:29-30

Give me understanding, that I may observe Thy law, and keep it with all my heart.Make me walk in the path of Thy commandments, for I delight in it. Psalm 119:34-35

How great is Thy goodness, which Thou hast stored up for those who fear Thee, which Thou hast wrought for those who take refuge in Thee, before the sons of men! Thou dost hide them in the secret place of Thy presence from the conspiracies of man; Thou dost keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues. Blessed be the LORD, for He has made marvelous His lovingkindness to me in a besieged city. Psalm 31:19-21

O Lord, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble; Thou wilt strengthen their heart, Thou wilt incline Thine ear. To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may cause terror no more. Psalm 10:17-18

He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, He who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands refusing bribes, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed and shuts his eyes from seeing of evil: He will dwell on high; His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks; Bread will be given him, His water will be sure (Isaiah 33:15-16)

For you, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favour you will surround him as with a shield - Psalm 5:12

"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." (1 Tim 2:1-2)
