Why emphasise Pray for Police

Although Police, Fire and Ambulance officers are all emergency providers, police are unique in that they are a governing authority as opposed to a service provider.

Fire and ambulance provide service  as do the police.  However, police also have a mandate under legislation to enforce the laws that govern a state, territory
or nation.

Fire and ambulance officers are not rulers
but civil servants.

Clearly there is a difference.  Although their role is vital in any community and they should be covered in prayer at all times due to the high risk nature of their work, they do not have governing authority over others.

The law gives police the power to take liberty and in the right circumstances  even life."

Pray 4 Australian Police

January 2010

Thank you for your interest in Praying for our Police.

Our police make a daily choice to confront evil on our behalf and to protect us from the consequences of that evil.

Their task is enormous, ranging from cases of theft to domestic abuse; from terrorist threats to heart wrenching abductions.

In guarding the frontlines of our communities they are often first on the scene when lives fall apart, witnessing the worst that society can offer.

Our prayers are essential.

The following prayer points are given by christian police officers:

For Protection

"you don't know how much it means to an officer to know that he and his family are covered in prayer when they go  out to work each day,  you never know what circumstances you will face."

Our police need prayer so that they can make the right decisions when they find themselves in the volatile role of keeping publice order or other potentially violent situations.  They need to be able to think on the spot and need wisdom and discernment to do this.

The families of our police also face the fear that their loved ones might not return from work - pray for the peace of their households and for understanding when those they love are under stress.

The Lord will keep you from all harm,
He will watch over your life;
Psalm 121:7 (NIV)

The Road Toll

"The number of deaths on our roads are beyond tragic"

There is an alarming increase in deaths on our roads as well as serious injuries.  The police and governments are working hard to transform attitudes on the road and to enforce the law.  Most road deaths, and the costs and grief they create, are avoidable

Bruce Corben of Monash University's Accident Research Centre recently said,  "These lives are no less precious than losses in wartime, but we allow the steady daily drip of death on the roads to pass us by in a way that the loss of 501 Australians serving in Vietnam over 11 years did not."

The Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121:8 (NIV)
