Release: Suffer the Little Children
AT
LAST, it is on the record: Pornography
is a significant factor in the violence
and anarchy in indigenous communities.
Alcohol
and drugs are well accepted as causing
rampant dysfunction in places already
beaten down by dispossession, disempowerment,
unemployment, ill health and poor
education. But the trauma caused by
the invasion of pornography has not
been properly acknowledged. Read |

Release: Family Planning Queensland
Family
Planning Queensland (FPQ), which runs
a child sexual assault counselling
service in Far North Queensland, has
followed the public discussion on
the Commonwealth's response to child
abuse in NT indigenous communities
with interest. The high prevalence
of child sexual abuse in some indigenous
communities is also evident in non-indigenous
communities with similar social problems
and lack of services. This is not
a reason not to support indigenous
communities, but points to the need
for responses that targets all child
sexual abuse.

& Aboriginal Child Sexual Abuse
John
Howard has taken on a big issue in
a big, bold way. The plight of Aboriginal
children in the Northern Territory
has been crying out for action and
the PM has acted. Gradually, every
state and territory has fallen into
line and Kevin Rudd has joined with
his support. Read |
Action
on NT Porn is Great: but Pornberra
is where the cancer is
The
Fatherhood Foundation and the delegates
that attended the bipartisan Sexual
Integrity Forum, www.sif.org.au, held
in August 2005 would like to congratulate
the Prime Minister, Mr. Howard, on
his action to deal with the ongoing
sexual abuse of women and children
in Northern Territory's Indigenous
communities. The horrific revelation
by the 'Little Children are Sacred'
report and dozens like it released
over the last two decades confirms
that the time to take action is long
overdue. Read |

Children Deserve Protection from Porn
Bill
Muehlenberg, Culture Watch
The
NT report, “Little Children Are Sacred,”
released two weeks ago, simply confirmed
what many people knew for quite some
time. Porn is killing our communities,
our kids, and our women. Thus it is
absolutely essential that action be
taken to protect indigenous children
from the horrific sexual abuse that
has been occurring for so long. Read |

Action 17 years Late
Roslyn
Phillips, Festival of Light Australia
"Seventeen
years ago our 'Festival Focus' paper
(August 1990) reported the journey to
Canberra by four Aboriginal pastors
including Cecil Grant of Albury and
Bob Brown of Adelaide, in late May that
year. Their urgent message to federal
MPs was: "Please ban X-rated videos.
They are causing the genocide of our
people, especially in remote areas." Read |

Brough, Minister for Families, Community
Services and Indigenous Affairs Canberra
22 June 2007
/ Subject: Indigenous emergency
Anybody
who's read or examined the report
prepared by Pat Anderson and Rex Wild
entitled Little Children Are Sacred
will be sickened and horrified by
the level of abuse. They will be deeply
disturbed at the widespread nature
of that abuse and they will be looking
for the responsible assumption of
authority by a government to deal
with the problem. Read |
