The Neighbours Aid Team Leaders have been
partners in the growth of Mercy International, Thailand for
many years, even before the community stores opened.
Mercy
International was established by Australian Pastors Rob and
Jean Dunk in 1985 to serve the orphaned and destitute children
of Thailand.
Since
then Mercy International has expanded and now operates three
children's sites in Thailand - Khon Kaen, Petchabun and Phrae
under the Thai Ban-meta Foundation.
Many
of the children in their care have been orphaned by AIDS and
some are ill with HIV/AIDS. They have also established a bilingual
pre-school and primary school for children from poor families;
a community service for people dying with HIV/AIDS and an English
language school.
Some
of the profits made by the Neighbour's Aid Community Stores
are directed to needy children in Thailand through Mercy International.
