NEW CURRICULUM A CASE OF OLD ‘SOLIDARITY FOREVER’

Queensland Senator, Ron Boswell

March 2010

“Julia Gillard’s new curriculum reads like a learner manual for international socialism,” said The Nationals’ Senator Ron Boswell today.

“This curriculum is an intrinsically socialist document that if implemented would indoctrinate Australian children with the socialist left view of science, the environment and history.”

“It may be Julia Gillard’s view of the world but it is not an objective 21st Century approach to the education of children in a progressive Western society.”

“The new curriculum reeks of socialist doctrine.”

“Year 9 history involves learning about ‘the main features of the factory system and its effects on productivity, consumption, social structure, labour conditions and the division of labour’ – this reads like a Marxist learner.”

“No doubt this is to prepare our young for the anti-capitalist class struggle.”

“Year 9 will also be  ‘discussing stories of rebellion by groups such as bushrangers, suffragettes and shearers’ – a  diverse bunch but pulled together no doubt to emphasise and laud the history of the labour movement. Surely students would also benefit by learning about the origins of the Country Party to keep Australia afloat on the sheep’s back.”

“Then in Year 10, history students can learn all about international organisations and tribunals for human rights, and various forums for solidarity with other international socialists.”

“Year 10 science students will be taught that Alan Trounson is recognised for a contribution to the field of genetics. Will they also be taught that he admitted using a fake video of rats to persuade politicians to support his case for embryonic stem cell research?”

“I’m also not sure that Year 3 Science students should be ‘comparing the reproductive processes and life cycles of a variety of living things including humans’.

“The national curriculum is so important to get right. At the moment it’s way too left.  It should be back to the chalkboard for Julia Gillard.”
