Green Party Attitude To Porn Risks Future Generations Says Nile

Rev. Fred Nile ED., L.Th, M.L.C.
Parliamentary Leader - Christian Democratic Party

March 2009

The Rev Fred Nile, Leader of the Christian Democratic Party, has stated that attitudes toward pornography espoused by groups like the Green Party are putting future generations at risk of violence and sexual abuse.

“Recent research by the Australian Institute of Criminology has confirmed what has long been expected, ‘pornography is changing the nature of sexual attitudes, behaviours and intimate relationships, and potentially contributing to sexual violence in society”, Rev Fred Nile said.

“According to the Institute, there are statistically significant associations found between pornography and sexual violence, empathy deficits, hostility toward women, hypermasculinity, impersonal sexuality, precocious sexual behaviour, delinquency and anti-social behaviour. Yet we still have some who claim the world is flat and there is no inherent risk to society from pornographic material. Green members of Parliament claim there is a place, even ‘need’ for X rated material in our society and have lobbied to have it legalised. The Greens, blinded by their social ideology, were wrong on recreational drugs and they’re wrong on porn.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that if you promote a culture that sexually objectifies women and children there are going to be negative impacts on the lives of this and future generations. We see it regularly demonstrated in the lives of male sport stars, in rang rapes, date rapes, domestic violence and child abuse. Yet those same people who stick their head in the sand and claim there isn’t a problem make sure they are the first to been seen coming to the defence of the victims.

Science is now telling us pornography distorts and twists normal perceptions. Individuals deserving of respect as human beings become material objects to be dominated, used and discarded in the quest for sexual gratification. For some, pornography becomes an addiction that will end in tragedy and even loss of life. The positionally schizophrenic Green Party will argue against having things like firearms in the community but will happily welcome pornographic material.

Science is telling us that the harmful effects of pornography exploit pre-existing factors such as hostility and problematic behaviours which manifest out of childhood experiences. Its time we listened and broke the cycle of sexual violence and abuse in our society. It’s time we reflect as a society and decide who we want to be in 50 or 100 years, what legacy we will leave for our children and grandchildren”, Rev Nile stated.

Rev Fred Nile also raised the issue during question time in the NSW Parliament.

Rev Hon. Fred Nile: Mr President, I ask the Minister for Health, the Hon John Della Bosca, representing the Premier, a question without notice.

  • What is the Government doing to break the current cycle of sexual violence and abuse of women and children in our society?

  • Will the Government take action to eradicate hardcore pornography from news agencies and petrol stations in order to protect our vulnerable women and children from the sexually volatile?

  • In view of the recent report from the Australian Institute of Criminology on the harmful effects of pornography.., what action is the Government taking to educate the community on the dangers of pornography and sexual objectification?

The Hon. John Della Bosca: The member's question deals with issues that are endemic in much of modern life. They are not issues suddenly upon us; they have been with us for a long time. This issue falls largely within the jurisdiction of the Attorney General, but I will discuss the matter with the Premier and advise the member as soon as I have an appropriate answer.
