Rev Fred Nile rejects Victoria’s proposed “relationship register”
Reverend Nile, who is the longest serving current member of Australia’s first House of Parliament, the NSW Legislative Council, and who was re-elected on 24 March with an increased vote, restated the policy of Christian Democratic Party that Marriage can exist only between a man and a woman.
“It seems that the Victorian plan is to invent a form of “quasi-marriage” intended to bestow upon same-gender partnerships the legal rights properly enjoyed by married couples,” said Reverend Nile. “The effect would be to undermine the blessèd institution of marriage.”
“What we are seeing is gradual change which will, in due course, lead to legal same sex homosexual ‘marriages’. That is why we must say no to these proposed ‘relationship registers’. Councils should also be prohibited from setting up Council ‘Relationship Registers’ thus interfering with marriage laws”.
Reverend Fred Nile called on Christian religious leaders of all denominations to join in condemnation of the Victorian proposal.
Reverend Nile invited Christian Democratic Party members and supporters around Australia to join him in praying that God grant to the Victorian Government wisdom and respect for marriage.
