The Elections - So where do we go from here?
November 2007
G'day folks
I guess like so many other Christians you were surprised or disappointed at the election outcome. The first thing that came to my mind was 'what happened'?
As you know several well known prophetic voices believed that they had heard from the Lord as to the outcome and while I never prophecied the outcome myself, I did forward one on from Kenneth Copeland.
So what happened?
How did I miss reading the signals so badly?
Did the prophets miss it?
Did we not pray?
Was the Church not united on the issue - well that part was obviously true. The church was widely divided on the issue.
I humbly apologise for any confusion that I may have caused by misreading the issue. But let me honest - I simply dont know!
I would love to have the answer, but I don't, I'm not God (fortunately).
So where do we go from here? Well I believe we need to move on.
I plan to get behind our new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, to uphold him and the new government in prayer!
This week I received a message from a young pastor, below is part of that email.
"......We have had prophetic words concerning the re-election to government of John Howard and the Coalition. This has not happened as we see it now. Does that mean that these prophetic voices are false? No, it does not! Time and time again in the Word of God we have seen God proclaim through the mouth of His prophets His will and yet His people did not obey.
There has been an apathy in the church, despite the call to "Arise". People have decided to "have a change" much like many have done with church, jumping from one thing to the next to see what is better! Well now we need to pray. If you have been apathetic about these elections, then wake up!
Our Bible mandate is to pray for the Government, to pray for our Prime Minister, and that we will, with fervent effectual prayer. The church is the spiritual government of this nation and it is only the fear (reverent awe) of God that will employ wisdom to lead........"
(end of quote).
Firstly, we need to express our sincere thanks to our former Prime Minister John Howard for the awesome job he did. I believe the prayers of Christians helped achieve that result. Now we need to honour him as he steps down. He leaves the nation in a very strong position, something many people are very quick to forget and dismiss!
Secondly, as I said before, I for one plan to do what God's Word instructs us to do, pray for the new leaders of my nation. I will be praying for their wisdom, guidance and an open heart to hear the Lord.
I will be praying that Australia - South land of the Holy Spirit, will continue on the course the Lord has set for us. As Acts 17: 26-27 says: "And He made from one [common origin, one source, one blood] all nations of men to settle on the face of the earth, having definitely determined [their] allotted periods of time and the fixed boundaries of their habitation (their settlements, lands, and abodes)."
Thirdly, I believe we need to be filling ourselves with the Word of God as never before. We need to be confessing His Word, His blessing and favour over our land as never before.
Certainly that is what I plan to be doing.
Jesus is Lord.
Be Blessed
