Media Release:
October 2007
More then 600 people gathered in the Great Hall of Federal Parliament to pray for Rain and the future of our nation today, leaving standing room only for late-comers, Peter Stokes of Salt Shakers said.
Christians from around Australia, including as far away as WA and Qld, converged on our nation’s capital in answer to the call by Danny Nalliah of Catch The Fire Ministries which was supported by a number of other prayer networks and Christian ministries.
The Prime Minister John Howard apologised for not being able to make it but sent a message to the meeting encouraging Christians to continue to pray for rain.
Farmers spoke of the struggle many faced, and would continue to face, if we did not confess our sin and call on God to forgive this nation for its’ ungodly ways.
Proverbs states “righteousness exalts a nation, sin is a reproach and farmer David Gibbs (from NSW) said we need to hear what God is saying to us.
Aboriginal Pastor Peter Walker prayed that there would be reconciliation with God of both aboriginal and “Anglo” people because we are all one people, one culture, and we need to unite under God.
A group of young people prayed that young people would become addicted to God, not to the many bad things which were promoted in our nation today.
People were reminded to continue to pray for rain, not just make a one-off call, as well as pray for, and help, farming communities.
“We also need to continue to pray for the forthcoming election”, Mr Stokes said after the event, especially that many more Christians will be elected to lead our nation.
