Queensland Office Media Release:

September 2007

Dear Queensland ACL Supporter,,

It is with great regret that we say goodbye to ACL Queensland Chief of Staff Carolyn Cormack on October 5th 2007. Carolyn has been a tireless and sacrificial worker for the ACL. She was our first fulltime staffer, although not fully paid. Carolyn has carried out the work of the ACL during the terms of three managing directors. She has proven to be an effective networker, organiser and fundraiser. Although not formally trained as a lobbyist, Carolyn brought her own style to the task – something which proved not only effective in building the organisation, but also in changing the cultural and moral landscape.

Carolyn will be remembered for a wide variety of initiatives ranging from her development and leadership of the Lord Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast in Brisbane to the implementation of the letter writing campaign that helped defeat euthanasia in the Northern Territory and across Australia. We would like to thank Carolyn very much for her tireless work. Carolyn, you are living proof that one person really can make a difference to our society.

Moving on to other matters, the embryonic cloning legislation, which we had expected to see debated in the Queensland Parliament in late August, has yet again been delayed. ACL has a number of concerns with this legislation, including the proposed use of embryonic stem cells for medical research purposes rather than adult stem cells which have had far
more success. Further, ACL questions the ethics of making claims of unsubstantiated‘wonder’ healings to those most desperately in need of medical intervention. We encourage you to go to www.makeastand.org.au and email your local politicians to ask them not to support the current cloning legislation.

ACL in Queensland is hoping to employ a part-time office administrative assistant. The position is Wednesdays to Fridays each week from 9 am – 4:30pm (standard award wage). For a job description please call Kelly on 3808 8899. If you are passionate about seeing righteousness in our nation and would like to be part of a team working for that please send your resume to qldoffice@acl.org.au or to P.O. Box 209 Underwood 4119.

In closing, we would value your prayers that great wisdom will be exercised with the amalgamating of local councils and for the many people and their families who could possibly lose their jobs and businesses.

God Bless,

Peter Earle

Queensland State Director
