Action on NT Porn is
Great:
but Pornberra is where the cancer is

The
Fatherhood Foundation and the delegates
that attended the bipartisan Sexual Integrity
Forum, www.sif.org.au,
held in August 2005 would like to congratulate
the Prime Minister, Mr. Howard, on his action
to deal with the ongoing sexual abuse of
women and children in Northern Territory's
Indigenous communities. The horrific revelation
by the 'Little Children are Sacred' report
and dozens like it released over the last
two decades confirms that the time to take
action is long overdue.
"For
many of our children the government action
has come far too late," said Warwick Marsh
from the Fatherhood Foundation. "My wife
and I, with our musical family have had
the please of touring and playing music
in almost 100 Indigenous communities all
over Australia between 1990 and 2000. During
our visits we heard dozens of stories of
child sexual abuse and shocking tales of
alcohol induced violence from Aboriginal
elders and some we witnessed with our own
eyes.
"In
1991 I was almost killed by a drug crazed
man while setting up to perform at a concert
in the central deserts of Australia while
my family watched. I can remember thinking
at the time, 'If this is what is happening
to me right now, what is happening to the
women and children in this community on
a weekly basis'."
Mr.
Marsh continued, "The Prime Minister has
taken the first step on this journey to
deal with the horrible combination of drugs,
alcohol and rampant X-rated pornography
in Aboriginal communities in NT. This is
commendable, but the next step is to cut
the cancer cells out at their source. The
cancerous growth of X-rated porn has its
home in 'Pornberra', our nation's capital.
X-rated porn is illegal in every state in
Australia except the NT and ACT. The time
has come to deal with this cancer. Australia's
children want to live in peace.
